| This was a refurbishing of a hot water solar heating system original to the 1978 home. When we bought the property in 2003, we did not know if the system even worked. Kosmo Solar inspected it in 2006 and clearly laid out options. We were having the roof redone (complete tear off), chimneys replaced and gutters installed, and also explored PV options but our best solution was to refurbish the SDHW system. Kosmo Solar did an excellent job, coordinating well with chimney crew and roof and gutter people. We are confident system works well, and have also signed up for annual maintenance to preserve our investment.  | My installation was a learning experience for both the installer and me. We found out after the initial installation that the design didn`t work as expected with our steam boiler. (We live in a 200-year-old house with steam heat via radiators.) The company was great about making the correction, which was to disconnect the boiler from the water heating system and add an electric water heater as backup. When the plumber inspected that installation he asked installers to put a backflow valve in the water tank. The valve created a pressure buildup in the water system that found relief at a faulty connection under the sink in our upstairs bathroom. The water gushed for nearly two hours before we found it, and ruined the bathroom and the kitchen below. Lesson learned by the installer and us: check to make sure all systems in the house related to the installation are up to code to start with.
